First Media Sells Online Unit
Posted on: Jan. 16, 2010Nashville, TN — First Media Communications, Inc. today announced the sale of one of its foremost retail brands, Music Direct, to Audiophile Music Direct, Inc., of Chicago, IL. The terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Since it’s inception as a traditional mail order catalog in 1995, Music Direct subsequently expanded to the Internet where it became one of the most recognized brands in the online music industry. The company pioneered the integration of original editorial content and e-commerce, and established First Media as a leader in the Internet music sector with innovative uses of new technologies and aggressive marketing campaigns that included partnerships with Discover Card, E! Online, Real Networks, and CBS.
Following the sale of Music Direct, the company plans to remain in the online music and media industries. The company said that it plans to expand both its WorldCast Network® and Destination: Music® divisions as part of its ongoing strategy to establish a comprehensive online music and entertainment network targeted to adult consumers.
