First Media Launches Music Channel
Posted on: Jan. 16, 2010Nashville, TN — First Media Communications, Inc. today announced the launch of its new Internet-based music channel, Radio Oasis (SM). Focusing on a unique mix of new releases, album cuts, and classic tracks by well-known and emerging recording artists, the company plans to target adult listeners who have become bored with the narrow music selections that have come to dominate commercial radio, and who have been disenfranchised by the proliferation of hard-edged and youth-oriented music stations across the listening spectrum.
The first adult-oriented rock music format launched in more than a decade, Radio Oasis (SM) is the brainchild of the company’s founder and President, James L. Berk, who developed the station’s unique sound over the course of two years prior to setting up the channel’s webcasting operations.
“Growing up in the ‘60s and ‘70s, there was an incredible variety of music on the radio, often on the same station” said Berk. “We listened to all of it. It didn’t matter if it was called rock, or pop, or R&B. Our generation became familiar with everything, and that was liberating. Radio Oasis is a nod back to that, a kind of re-invention of what a music format can be.”
Termed “melodic rock” by Berk, the station’s music format is available in both high and low bandwidth streams and is compatible with all major media players, including Winamp, iTunes, Windows Media, and Real Player.
First Media Communications, Inc. is an integrated music and media company based in Nashville, Tennessee (http://www.first-media.com/).
